Potential of Schools: Reflection, Relationships and Resilience

The text that we will be using the graduate course that I'm thinking this term is "The Developing Mind: How Relationships and the Brain Interact to Shape Who We Are" by Daniel J. Siegel.  A few years back, I read a book entitled "Mindsight: The New Science of Personal Transformation" by the same author.  It was one of those powerful/meaningful books for me.

In the following video, Daniel Siegel talks about adding three more R's to schooling: Reflection, Relationships and Resilience.  We live in a climate where we all seem to be very aware of needing more than academics in schooling.  There are many teachers who work to develop more than academics in students.  We talk about 21st Century Competencies and Teaching Character.  It all kind of fits in to this area of reflection, relationships and resilience.  I think we are living in exciting times in education!
